2007 Asics Liberty University Invitational

The Generals put up some great performances at the Asics Liberty Invite.  Highlighting the weekend were 10 first place finishes among division 3 participants and 3 new school records.

For the women, sophomore Elizabeth Webb led the way with her school record in the 1,500m running 4:49.00.  She was the 1st D3 finisher and placed 5th overall.  Classmate Becca Taylor also placed 1st D3 in the 5,000m running 18:38.90.  Freshmen Lizz Krausnick ran her first 800m of the season running 2:24.82 to be the 1st D3 placer.  Sophomore Stephanie Stelter placed 1st (D3) in the 400 hurdles crossing the line in 71.42 and she was also 2nd in the 100 hurdles running 17.27.  Classmate Tara Hildenbrand run 63.48 in the 400m to placed 2nd among D3 runners.  Alysen Kuck was 2nd in the Javelin with a toss of 30.24m and senior Darla Dixon was 2nd D3 in the Discus throwing 29.84m.  The 4x400m relay team of Tara Hildenbrand, Lizz Krausnick, Stephanie Stelter and Elizabeth Webb ran 4:12.57 to place 2nd. 

The men were led by Chip McCoy and Ben Goetsch.  McCoy was the top D3 finisher in the 400 hurdles running 59.96.  Goetsch was the top collegiate finisher in the High Jump clearing 1.85m.  Freshmen classmate Ryan Castle placed in three jumps.  He was 1st D3 in the Triple Jump (11.84m), 2nd in the Long Jump (6.06m) and 2nd in the High Jump (1.80m).  Ben Wilson had a big PR for the 2nd week in a row in the Shot Put.  His toss of 13.17m placed him 2nd among D3 throwers.  Freshmen Billy Billington placed 2nd in the Discus with a throw of 39.83m.  Junior Marshall French was the 2nd D3 finisher in the 400m running 51.24.  Both sprint relays for the Generals were the top D3 schools to finish.  The 4x100m relay team of Brian Bondurant, Sean Hurdiss, Drew Martin and Marshall French and the 4x400m relay team of Chip McCoy, Marshall French, Brian Bondurant and Matt Harrision finished 2nd overall running 3:27.66

** On a special note**  This weekend marked the first time in school history that a W&L athlete participant competed in the Heptathlon and/or the Decathlon.  Freshmen Sallie Armstrong finished the hep and establishing a school record with her performance of 3,175 points.  For the men, junior Michael Keenan finished the decathlon with 4,037 points also establishing a school record.  The 10th and final event highlighted Keenans dec when he came from behind to pass the field and win the 1,500m.
