2007 CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

 

 

The fields are set for the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships.

 Ten schools with a total of 201 individuals will participate in this years championship race held on the

Dick Miller Cross Country Course at Washington and Lee University in Lexington Virginia. 

 

 

 

 

WOMEN’S RACE PREVIEW:

 

         The women’s race for the 2007 conference championship looks to be one of the most exciting in recent years.  The Maroons of Roanoke College have run strong all year long and look to lead the pack in the hunt for the team championship title.  They field a solid top three who have been interchangeable all season long with sophomores Liz Mumaw and 2007 indoor ODAC 5,000m champion Mallory McClaine as well as freshmen Emma Wilson.  Three time defending ODAC champion Washington and Lee University will look defend their title.  W&L ran strong in their last outing and are led by 2006 ODAC rookie of the year and NCAA National qualifier Kat Telfeyan.  The Generals welcomed back 2007 ODAC outdoor  Track & Field Athlete-Of-The Meet and champion in the 800m, 1500m, and 5,000m  Elizabeth Webb and have a strong group bolstered by returning 2006 All ODAC runners Becca Taylor, Dorothy Todd and freshmen Christine Balistreri.

   Lynchburg College has a dynamic group that are led by sophomore Ashley Meyer and freshmen Molly Galloway and Jennie Pernisi.  The young Hornets crew is talented and hope to be in the mix at the finish line.

   Britney Wells of Bridgewater College will lead the way for the Eagles.  Virginia Wesleyan College is a growing program on the rise.  They are led by 2006 All ODAC runner Ashley Roane and will look to continue climbing up the final team standings.  The Eastern Mennonite University Royals are a young team led by freshmen Kelsey Wiebe.  Freshmen Grace Normann will lead the charge for Guilford College in this years championship race.  Emory & Henry College senior Katie Lamb looks to lead her team into the 2007 meet and newcomers Randolph College will participate in the 2007 ODAC championship meet for the first time in school and conference history.

 

 

 

 MEN’S RACE PREVIEW:

 

   The second race of the day promises to be a close one with each teams top runners making a huge impact in the overall outcome of the meet.  Three-time defending ODAC Champion Washington & Lee University will look to defend their title on their home course and make it four wins in a row.  The Generals are led by 2006 All ODAC runners Michael Welsh, Vance Berry and Tom Brower. The three have been a consistent force for the Generals all season.

Lynchburg College will look to make a run at the Generals for this years title.  The Hornets will look to Ricky Flynn (05 NCAA national qualifier) to start-up their charge with Jeremy Faulk and Pat Jacobs giving support.

      W&L and LC have a 1-1 head to head record leading into the 07 championship meet.  LC edged out W&L at the NYU invite on September 15th,  two weeks later W&L defeated LC at the Paul Short invite at Lehigh University. 

Bridgewater College who finished 2nd at the 2006 championships will not sit back and watch the Generals and Hornets as they themselves will look to make a push for the 2007 crown.  The Eagles are led by Nathan Rittenhouse who has had some great races this fall and 2006 National Qualifier Brandon Spalding. 

         Virginia Weslyan College made a big jump placing 4th last season and will look to 2006 All ODAC Runner Robert Aaron to continue their charge.  Roanoke College is a young team eager to make a splash with freshmen Ian Robinson leading the way.  Guilford College senior Jeremy Bante spearheads another young team looking to move up in the final standings.  Hampden-Sydney will look to junior George Heeschen  to lead the way as he has all season for the Tigers.  Junior Justin Hochstetler will help his Eastern Mennonite team at the 2007 championships while Emory & Henry is led by 2006 All ODAC senior Jonathan Seidel who looks to help his team reach new heights in 2007.  Newcomers Randolph College will participate in the 2007 ODAC championship meet for the first time in school and conference history.
