VMI Winter Relays
The Generals Competed At Cross Town VMI. The Meet Had Both Division 3 and Division 1 Schools. All Together Among Division 3 Schools W&L Had 4 First Place Finishes 21 Top Five Performances And Set Two School Records.
For the women, sophomore Stacy Doornbos was the first D3 finisher in the Triple Jump with a leap of 10.23m and finished 2nd D3 in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.04m. Junior Liz Brandler was the top D3 finisher in the Pole Vault clearing 2.89m and also finished 4th in the Triple Jump (9.89m). Freshmen Maggie Sutherland placed in three events. She was the 3rd D3 runner to cross the line in the 55 hurdles. Her time of 9.09 set a new school record! She also finished 4th in the Long Jump (4.72) and 5th in the Triple Jump (9.80). Junior Jessica Buckingham and freshmen Maureen Ford had a 3-4 finish in the 800m running 2:38.69 and 2:40.64 respectively. Sophomore Grace Andrews placed 4th in the 20lb Weight Throw with a toss of 36'8.5" breaking her own school record.
Freshmen teammates Ryan Castle and Joseph Roane led the way for the guys. Castle was the top D3 finisher in the High Jump clearing 1.85m and Roane was the top D3 Triple Jumper with a leap of 11.88m. Classmate Billy Billington was the 2nd place finsher in the Shot Put with a toss of 12.79m and was 3rd in the 35lb Weight Throw (13.62m). Sophomore Ben Wilson was 3rd in the Shot with a throw of 12.48m. Junior Larry Clark was the 3rd D3 finisher in the 55 hurdles crossing the line in 9.25
