2008 ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships
Women Finish Second, Men Third At The ODAC Indoor Championships. Six Conference Champions, Ten All-ODAC Performances, Five Championship Meet Records, Three School Records and an NCAA Qualifying Performance Highlighted Day For The Generals.
The women placed 2nd at the chamionship meet for the 3rd year in a row. The day started off with a bang as the Distance Medley Relay team captured the crown. The team of freshmen Katherine Fenwick, junior Tara Hildenbrand, freshmen Christian Balistreri and sophomore Kat Telfeyan set a new championship meet record running 13:19.36. Junior Elizabeth Webb earned two titles as she lead a 1-2-3 sweep in the Mile with classmate Becca Taylor (5:22.85) placing 2nd and sophomore Dorothy Todd (5:27.85) finishing 3rd. Webb won the Mile with a championship meet record 5:11.51. She then came back to win the 800m in a meet record time of 2:21.54. Webb was also named ODAC Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year. Todd and Taylor also placed in the 800m. Todd was 4th running 2:29.29 and Taylor was 6th crossing the line in 2:30.29. Junior Stacy Doornbos showed her multi-event strength competing in six individual events for the Generals. Doornbos placed 2nd in the Long Jump with a leap of 17'9" was 4th in the Triple Jump (34'3"), 5th in the High Jump (5'0.25"), 5th in the 55m hurdles (8.92), 3rd in the 400m (60.80) and 6th in the 200m (27.20). Junior Jessica Shaw won the 5,000m title crossing the line in a new championship meet record running 17:45.85. Classmate Grace Andrews had a strong day in the throws. Andrews placed 3rd in the 20lb Weight Throw with a toss of 43'8" and placed 4th in the Shot Put (36'1"). Junior Alysen Kuck placed 4th in the High Jump clearing 5'1.75". Sophomore Maggie Sutherland was 4th in the 55m hurdles breaking her own school record running 8.91. Freshmen Summer Lollie placed 5th in the Triple Jump (34'1.75") and she also crossed the line 6th in the 55m (7.60). Additionally the meet closed out with the 4x400m relay team of Sallie Armstrong, Tara Hildenbrand, Stephanie Stelter and Stacy Doornbos placing 2nd with a time of 4:11.74
A balanced attack help lead the men's team had their highest finish in 10 years as they placed 3rd. Sophomore Billy Billington lead the charge as he started the meet off with championship winning toss in the 35lb Weight Throw. His mark of 54'11" broke his own school record, set a new meet record and was an NCAA qualifying performance. Billington came back to place 2nd in the Shot Put with a PR toss of 47'6". Freshmen Jeff Giordano placed 3rd in the 55m crossing the line 6.55 and placed 4th in the 200m running 22.89 to break his own school record. For his performances he was named ODAC Rookie-Of-The-Year. Sophomore Ryan Castle took the title in the High Jump clearing 6'4" The Distance Medley Relay team of senior's Andrew Friski, Marshall French, freshmen Michael Shiplet and junior Alex Jackson placed 4th running 10:57.62. Junior Vance Berry crossed the line 5th in the Mile (4:30.75). Michael Welsh placed 4th in the 5,000m running 15:57.28. Other scoring performances for the Generals were turned by junior Sean Hurdiss who placed 6th in the 55m (6.72). Sophomore Brian Bondurant placed 6th in the Triple Jump with a leap of 41'4 and the 4x400 relay team of Marshall French, junior Chip McCoy, Brian Bondurant and Jeff Giordano placed 5th running 3:33.18
